I knew I would
succeed, but the
success wasn’t mine.

I did it all because I could,
not because I should.

People often ask me: how did I choose this path?

As someone who grew up in a council house, from a background of toxic relationships, addiction and alcoholism, my success became the life raft others could rely on. In the process I learnt that saving people gets me appreciated, so I kept doing it. In a sense, it served me.

I learned that, if I wanted something, I could go and get it without relying on anyone. In many other ways, it hurt. I never knew when to stop. I couldn’t differentiate between my own purpose and taking on everyone else’s responsibilities. I started to cave under the pressure of my own achievements.

Wait, what?! How the hell did that happen?

My full story

One hour after giving birth to my baby girl, I was taking a work call. That was a Monday. The following week I was back at work. When Covid hit I was working 14-hour days cooped up in the bedroom with my newborn. Not only did I keep the company alive, it tripled in size during COVID. Today, I can say that I built a million-pound care company from the ground up, but I lost myself and precious moments along the way. I had vulnerable adults, I had staff, I had business partners. I did not want to let anyone down, so I let myself down. Repeatedly. My back story is set in a less-than-usual background. Absent father, alcoholism and addictions running in the family; taking responsibility and not letting others down was my default. I also had my own story of abuse within teenage relationships, but I came to resolve them with the birth of my eldest.

By this point I was a single mum, struggling financially and the one thing I knew with sharp clarity was that this was not the life I wanted to offer my daughter.

This is how I came to launch the first of what is now 4 businesses. The first one, Life Enhancement Group Limited that started from £80 is now hitting £1M in turnover and continues to grow.

I certainly know what building from 0 looks like.

But on a mountain hike on my 30th birthday, having just tripled the size of our company, and having had my second daughter, I completely broke down. I had lost precious time with my children, and I realised that I would have probably preferred a job that allowed me the time, rather than the “freedom” of my business. I was ready to give it all up. Across the years I had helped people believe in themselves, but I was scared to take responsibility for myself. Trying to be everything to everyone just seemed easier, because knowing how to be resilient and strong for others was easy. It was what I had always known to do. Right back since I was little making sure everyone was ok.

But at the bottom of that mountain as the masks dropped, the overlays, the doing because you should came off, the only question bursting out was:
“What do I want for myself?” and “Who even am I?” That’s when I embarked on the journey of knowing myself. I threw myself into therapy, inner work, books, coaching, mindfulness and learning to listen to my body and my instincts. I had not realised amid building my business, raising my daughters, and holding all these responsibilities, I had lost myself. After coaching so many people, I know that I am not the only one who feels this way.

That’s why I am now dedicating my time to helping other business owners get back into alignment, finding their inner worth and working towards TRUE fulfilment.
